Purchased in March of 1987 by Rob and Elaine DeBlois, our bakery was at the time known as Bun King, part of a national franchise of bakeries. In 1992 Bun King emerged from the franchise world as Buns & Things, the independent business that you know and love today!
the bakery began to grow, becoming the first bakery on PEI to offer fresh bagels, adding a deli and sandwich counter which we are so well known for today, and consistently supporting local restaurants, hotels, and golf courses, among others. All while remaining true to our roots as one of the few remaining scratch-made, baked fresh daily bakeries around.
Well known for our "earworm" of a jingle on the radio that will get stuck in your head, as well as weekly ads featuring a heavy dose of alliteration to really get your attention, Rob always put a large emphasis on supporting local businesses in all our marketing, an important topic that remains part of our core to this day.
On January 1, 2016, Rob and Elaine sold the business to their son, Bill DeBlois, who remains the owner and operator. Over the years, it has grown to now include a separate cake shop, Cakes by Buns and Things, and employs up to 35 people, from part-time students to full-time retail, bakers, decorating staff, and even two delivery drivers.
